Morning Devotion: Read Daniel

Daniel 6:22  My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Daniel a man of God, a prophet of God and a statesman in the realm of Darius was preferred because there was an excellent spirit within Daniel.

Daniel 6:1  It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; 2  And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. 3  Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Daniel was not favoured by his peers; his peers lusted after Daniel’s position and sought to remove him, however they could find nothing wrong, evil or wicked in Daniel. So, they used his faith, his walk and his trust in God against him.

Daniel 6:4  Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

They conjured up a law that would condemn Daniel for being faithful to God. Daniel knowing the law was enacted and signed still went about his business of loving, praying and serving the Lord regardless.

Sure enough, he was arrested, incarcerated and eventually thrown into a den of lions.

God sent angels to protect Daniel. He survived.

In our text we find several descriptions of Daniel.

  1. Daniel was innocent not only innocent but innocent before God and men. Daniel 6:22  My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Are you innocent before God? We can appear to be innocent before man but to be innocent before God is something very different because God sees your heart.

2.  Daniel had an excellent spirit. Daniel 6:3  Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

What kind of spirit do you hold within?

3.  Daniel was faithful without error or fault. Daniel 6:4  Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

Can you say that you are innocent, with an excellent spirit and faithful without fault or error before God and man?

Being innocent and being of a good spirit comes from God and that through the Lord Jesus Christ. Being faithful and without fault or error is the result of being innocent and of a good spirit.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
