Morning Devotion: Read Hosea

Hosea 4:6  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Hosea was a prophet of God during the times of of four kings of Judah and two kings of Israel. He spoke God’s word to them and like all the other prophets, he was rejected.

Our text speaks of those who have a lack of knowledge and as a result were destroyed.

Knowledge is important; without knowledge one is like a child getting into trouble and not knowing how or why. Children must be taught to ride a bike or to kick a ball or any of those things that come with knowledge. We are taught reading, writing and arithmetic. Young people have to be taught to drive. We have three on three basketball at tout church. When a young person is introduced to basketball they have no idea how to dribble or shoot or what a foul is or double dribble or any such thing. As they play and learn they eventually become better and some become quite good at basketball. They acquire knowledge.

It is the same with salvation, it is the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ that saves the soul. After salvation one grows in the grace and knowledge of our Lord  and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2Peter 3:18  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Our text is addressed to those who supposedly knew the Lord and did not follow or learn of Him.

My christian friend, take time to learn of and about the Lord.

Matthew 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The word of God is filled with truths that will keep you from destruction for daily living and eternity. It will tell you what is happening in the world today and what is going to happen. It will enlighten your eyes let you see with clarity in the midst of deception.

Psalm 119:105  NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Proverbs 6:23  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Read your bible and pray every day and grow, neglect your bible  and forget to pray and shrink. Don’t let the lack of the knowledge of God’s word be your destruction.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
