Morning Devotion: Read Jeremiah

Jeremiah 12:1  Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? 2  Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins. (Far from their will)

When the bible talks about reins, it is talking about the will of man. As a horse has a will his will is overridden by the reins via the bridle and they are controlled by the hand of those who ride them.

God’s desire is that your desire would be His desire.

Psalm 32:8  I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. 9  Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

In our text we find that there are those who have a will which is contrary to the will of God. The Lord is near in their mouth, but their will is far from the Lord.

“thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.”

Hypocrisy rules their heart. They are described as double tongued or forked tongued, saying one thing and doing another.

Isaiah 29:13  Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Matthew 15:8  This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Today, would you endeavour to let God rule your reins, your will. Would you let God’s will be your will?

Psalm 19:14  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

The first will of God is that you might be saved, born-again.

2Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
