Morning Devotion: Read Jeremiah

Jeremiah 16:10  And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God? 11  Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; 12  And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me: 13  Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.

As parents we have a great responsibility to live for the Lord before our children, acquaintances and friends. Every one has a ministry which should be lived for the Lord. Every one has a ministry that influences others either for the good or for evil.

In our text we find that they were complaining about the evil that was to come upon them from Babylon. They were complaining because Jeremiah was preaching the word of the Lord and their demise for their sin.

Isn’t it just like today, people see the evil and say, why? why me, what have I done?

Jeremiah 16:10  And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?

You know, these folks could not see their sin, their evil. They could not understand why?

Jeremiah explained it to them and they still rejected his words. In fact as you read to chapter 20 you will find the high priest son, Pashur, got upset and smote Jeremiah.

We find throughout the scriptures that the prophets and those who preach righteousness were often smitten and cruelty killed for the truth which they spoke. People are offended when truth points them in the face. Pride cannot accept personal fault for most people think themselves to be right even when they are wrong.

Jesus, who only spoke of righteousness, was smitten by the high priest and later cruelly hung on the cross.

Would you take time to evaluate yourself with God’s word.  Would you let the word of the Lord reveal to you, you.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
