Morning Devotion: Read Amos

Amos 8:11  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12  And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

The famine has begun and is well underway for many have embraced the words of man rather than the words of God.

The waters are darkened and become murky with so many translations and different equivalencies of what is supposed truth.

God tells us in the book of Amos that in the end times this will happen and a famine of God’s word will ensue. Yet, He encourages us to seek His commandments and His laws for within them is long life and peace and favour with God and good understanding.

Proverbs 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4  So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

My Christian friend, are you reading God’s word, are you meditating on God’s word day and night?

Joshua 1:8  This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Rather, many have sought and embraced other counsel leaving the word of God and allowing the flesh and personal desires to rule rule the heart. Thus a famine for the word of God has been ushered in.

Psalm 1:1  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6  For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Do you know what is happening in our world today? Do you know what God’s word says?  Are you reading your bible?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
