Morning Devotion: Read Jeremiah

Jeremiah 35:6  But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever: 7  Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers. 8  Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters; 9  Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed: 10  But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

Faithful was the family of Jonadab. He gave command to his family for their own good concerning wine (alcohol) and concerning their dwellings and sustenance of life. His children were obedient in all that their father had taught them.

Today, it seems our younger generations have followed the influences of the world rather than Christ, the word of God. They have been deceived and follow deception.

Colossians 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

The generations of today have followed the way of world and the so called village approach mentality. It does not take a village to rear children. That philosophy has caused many to believe and follow those who would lead by deception causing the young to curse father and mother.

Proverbs 30:11  There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. 12  There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. 13  There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

Always follow the wisdom of your parents as they follow the wisdom of God.

Proverbs 19:26  He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

When you put your hand in the face of your father and mother and say things like, “I don’t want to hear it” or “I know better than you” and waste and refuse their wisdom, don’t expect blessings from God.

In our culture today, there is a curse, it is the curse of children oppressing their parents rather than the parents leading their children. This is a sign of the end times. It is contrary and backward from the principles of God.

Isaiah 3:12  As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

In our text, those who followed the Godly wisdom of Jonadab their father were blessed for ever.

Jeremiah 35:18  And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you: 19  Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.

What advice are you following?

Following the advice of our heavenly Father and live.

The choice is still yours,
